Life as an Adult

Episode 36

I was still struggling with my feelings when i heard someone call my name from behind. I turned to see Adaora’s mother waving at me from the compound. I hesitated for a moment before walking towards her..

Sincerely speaking, I wasn’t expecting to see her at the house, and i just can’t describe how i felt that moment. She was a very proud no nonsense lady who i had always politely avoided all through my young life, even though she was a good friend of my mum.
Though Just like my mother, she fully supported my relationship with her daughter but with the current situation of things, i knew i had every reason to hide my face from her.

“so why are you here?” she asked as soon as i got close to her. I shrugged and breathed deeply.

“i came to see Adaora” i murmured truthfully. She scoffed with disbelief, studying me seriously.

“You know i’m very disappointed in you. I used to admire your gentle and reserved behaviour but i never knew you were a green snake. Nothing would have delighted me more than seeing my daughter get married to you and be a full member of your family. But unfortunately you don’t deserve her. I can’t continue watching my daughter slip away because of your conducts. Stay away from her. Don’t ruin her life for me. I won’t warn you again. You know what i’m capable of doing” she warned and hissed seriously with great rage while I did the most unimaginable thing by kneeling before her, Swelling her ego with my unprecedented action.

“mummy, i know i don’t deserve your daughter. I know i have wronged her so many times. I also don’t know what she told you, but the last thing i will want is to be on your bad side. I have always been afraid of you right from my childhood. Please it’s with great courage that i’m kneeling before you. I know Adaora must have told you a lot. I’m really not as bad as people think. Just that i have been making lots of bad decisions lately. However i believe marrying your daughter will turn around my life for good. I’m no saint and i’m no devil. Please don’t kick me out the way Adaora just did. You are also my mother. You can’t kick away your child can you?” i begged desperately. The woman stared down at me with great surprise.
Just like i expected, my action totally touched her.

“fine, let’s go inside and talk. You are a man. Men don’t kneel anyhow” she muttered with a softer voice, helping me up. I slowly picked up myself and followed the proud lady politician to the sitting room.

Yea I was bad in so many things, but my tongue, my charisma, my innocent face had a way of turning peoples mind. I had used the trick so many times and it worked.
I earnestly hoped to get the woman on my side even though i knew it would be a very difficult deed. But unlike Adaora she was yet to develop immunity over my magical powers…

“Adaora told me everything, plus the phone call she got from your mum. So tell me about that woman, Tessy right?. I’m very much interested in knowing more about her. Perhaps the only way you can get me on your side is to tell me everything about the lady who is destroying my daughter’s happiness. I heard she’s a society lady?. Who knows, she could be an associate. Maybe i can also get to have a word with her” she asked as i settled down on a couch, next to where she sat.

Unfortunately her demands kind of threw me off balance, making me shiver with shock. She smiled on seeing my reaction.

“you are free to say nothing and walk away. As you go, also kiss goodbye to my family and daughter, but if you wish to open up in order to get my forgiveness, you have to tell me nothing but the whole truth”. She demanded seriously, putting me in a very tight position.

Of course i knew she definitely would try to track down Tessy if i dare to open my mouth and i equally felt that Adaora cleverly hid Tessy’s details from her to prevent any uncalled situation. If not she wouldn’t have asked me to open my can of worms and reveal Tessy’s Identity…

Keeping quiet was deadly and opening my mouth was deadlier…..
what do i do?

Episode 37

Adaora’s mum studied me curiously as she eagerly waited for my story while i battled with my mind, uncertain of the best words to use in replying. Luckily her phone rang that moment from one of the inner rooms, interrupting us. She quickly left me alone and went over to answer her call, giving me ample time to think things through.

“Telling her the truth about Tessy probably won’t be a bad idea. Tessy is a big girl who can take care of herself, moreover she promised to always back me in everything. Yea i will tell the woman everything, then once i leave, i will call Tessy and inform her about the development” i reasoned with a smile.

Adaora’s mum returned minutes later, flashing an apologetic smile.
“i’m sorry i have a meeting to attend right now and i will also be travelling to Abuja tomorrow with Adaora. You can come over to Abuja whenever you are free to tell me all about that woman” she said seriously. My eyes instantly lighted up with hope.
Of course being in the same house with Adaora was all i needed in order to try my tricks on her once again. I equally knew there wasn’t a way her mum would let me return to the east without at least spending a night in their home due the long journey and everything.

“God just answered my first prayer” i reasoned happily while the woman stared at me curiously.

“yea that’s fine by me. I will come over on Friday and i promise to prove to you that i’m worthy to be your son in law” i breathed seriously. She nodded and breathed deeply.
______

I headed back to Owerri minutes later, without even bothering to stop at my family house. I was ashamed of facing my mum at home, moreover i knew Adaora’s return must have raised the tension in my family.

I got to my apartment to see Frank waiting for me. I wasted no time in telling him the latest development of things. He laughed his heart out after listening to my narration.

“c’mon you just have to forget that girl. You have already exhausted all your lies on her. Spending a night or a week at her house won’t change her mind. Moreover what do you plan telling her again” he queried as he laughed while i scoffed and shrugged.

“don’t underestimate me bro, moreover i plan on getting her pregnant with any chance i get. At least i will stand a chance of marrying her if she gets pregnant for me” i said seriously.

“you must be nuts. How do you plan achieving that?” he asked with disbelief.

“just be calm bro, you will witness it all” i assured.

“fine, but i know things are easier said than done” he muttered while i shrugged.
Of course things are easier said than done but i had my hopes up and was very sure of myself. I knew somehow i would find a way to manipulate and get Adaora pregnant. I only stood a chance of winning her with such a great plan. But how the hell do i get to have s-x with her without doing it forcefully, considering the state of our relationship ??…

Hmmmm my plan really was something else. Perhaps i was slowly losing it.

Episode 38

Wednesday morning, i called Tessy on phone and told her that i was coming over to Abuja on friday, hinting a little of my purpose of visiting to her. She really was pleased over the news and begged me to come on Thursday so that we could rub minds together. I accepted and ended the call.

Frank stayed with me till Thursday morning when i got ready to head to the capital city. He tried once again to talk some sense into me as i hastily prepared for the journey.

“seriously bro, i don’t think your relationship with Adaora is ever going to work again. It’s better you stay here and retain the little dignity you have left than going to Abuja to get yourself embarrassed. Moreover how the hell do you plan sleeping with the girl, or even getting her pregnant. Your plans sucks. It sounds so childish” he said seriously.

“you have to understand bro. I have lots of pressure to make things work with Adaora. That’s the only way i can prove a good point to my family. Moreover i have a lot to gain with Adaora” i tried explaining.

“so it’s all about proving a point, greed and ambition huh?. Come on, Tessy ruined Adaora for you. So forget about the girl, do business with Tessy and marry chinwe. You can never have both Tessy and Adaora in your life at the same time. Seriously both woman look the same to me” he poured out.

“yea i know my plan sucks. Perhaps i may never get to see the colour of Adaora’s pant anymore. But this is the last shot, i must say the best i got in fighting for her heart. If i return without achieving anything, then i will move on with my life. I know aiming to get Adaora pregnant sounds outrageous but believe me, i will use every opportunity that presents itself in trying to achieve that. I know i have just below 5% chance of getting it done, but my hopes are still up” i explained with all my heart.

“fine, it’s your life after all. Do what suits you” Frank muttered with resignation while i smiled at him.

“just pray for me brother. That’s all i need from you” i said and tapped his shoulder….

_____

I got to Abuja around 7pm that fateful Thursday and headed straight to Tessy’s house.

Tessy’s was all smiles as she welcomed me into her quiet plush residence devoid of the usual playful noise of her children.
She didn’t even allow me to rest before dragging me to the dinning table where a sumptuous meal awaited me. We discussed about Adaora and her mum as we ate together, and I really opened up to her in a way i never had done with her.

“sure you can tell your girl’s mum all about me. I can take care of myself” she smiled as i told her the reason Adaora’s mum invited me.

“anyway i know Adaora loves you a lot because the way she tried to get rid of me sometime back showed her love and loyalty towards you. The only problem now is that she’s having great doubts about her future with you. I bet the only solution is to propose and put a ring on her third finger” she concluded expertly while i stared at her with disbelief, shock and surprise.

“c’mon don’t look so surprised. I promised to let you marry any woman of your choice which also leaves me with no choice than to help you with it. After all your happiness will go a long way to stabilise our relationship. Now listen up, here’s what you will do to get back into Adaora’s heart” she stopped, gulped down her wine, cleaned her mouth and drew back on her chair while i stared at her with an open mouth…

Surely Tessy got many colours in her….

Episode 39

“now listen up. I’m not saying you should go buy a ring and put on her finger right away, but instead you should work faster towards it by being nicer, kinder and more romantic towards her. Then whenever a great opportunity presents itself, quickly propose to her in front of your family. I believe the little love she has left for you won’t allow her to say no or reject you in front of your family. What Adaora needs from you is a big commitment move to reassure her of her position in your life. And you better act fast before someone else gets her heart. Women do move on easily than men. I hope you know?” Tessy poured out while my head swelled with excitement.

“thanks for the great advice. I still can’t believe all those beautiful words came from you. You are really helping me win back Adaora” i said with a smile, while she shook her head.

“yea but you should also know that as it was easy for me to figure out a way to build up your relationship with Adaora, i can easily figure out a way to destroy it a hundred times over, if you dare abandon me in the end. All i want is for you to settle down with the right woman, so that you won’t have any excuse to play me around again since i have seen that i can’t marry you” she said seriously. I breathed deeply and said nothing. Of course i knew she meant every word.
____

We retired to her bedroom soon afterwards where we engaged in a hot s-x session. We f—-d each other until we lost our breathe. Yea, Tessy never seemed to get enough of it. The more i f—-d her, the more she fell in love with me, the more she was willing to do anything for me. I equally was slowly getting used to her body, especially her beautifully curved bosoms which i always used like a feeding bottle.
____

Early the next day, i got ready to leave but Tessy warned me against it.
“you have to wait till evening, unless you are willing to explain to your Adaora where you spent the night or perhaps the reason you took a night ride. She knows you well, so i advise you wait till evening, at least that will cancel any suspicion whatsoever” she advised me…
____

Finally by 6:25pm, i found myself in Adaora’s Abuja family residence. I nervously made my way to the sitting room where Adaora was watching a T.v programme with her mum.
She instantly grew tense on seeing me while her Mum smiled politely. Tessy’s words of Advice poured back into my head that exact second.

Of course i had a great task ahead. But I had to first work myself into Adaora’s mother’s heart, try my best to rekindle the woman’s support, then re establish a connection with Adaora and finally find a way to get her together with my family where i will pop the question of the century.
“will you marry me??”. It was such a huge task which had just a fifty percent chance of working, but i was hopeful. I was sure of myself.

“oh what a fool i have been, playing chess with my life” i said to myself as i stared at Adaora’s beautiful face, swallowing hard with regret.
“dear Lord, i know i’m the greatest sinner on earth. I know my actions are always stupid and unworthy. But i beg of you. Help me” i prayed silently…..

“mum i can’t believe you invited him to the house?. I thought you weren’t serious when you mentioned it. C’mon my life can’t continue revolving around Val. I don’t know the promise or arrangement you made with his family but i’m no longer interested” Adaora suddenly shouted at her mum, got up and left the sitting room with rage.
Her behaviour was unexpected but i wasn’t surprised by it…

Episode 40

“welcome young Val. I believe you had a very stressful journey?. You can go shower, rest and come out for dinner. I have the whole of tomorrow to listen to your side of the story and it better be good” Adaora’s mum said seriously while i nodded with a smile even though my heart pounded furiously as i stood before her….

An hour and half later i joined Adaora and her mum in the dinning room. We all had a quiet dinner, exchanging nothing but few words throughout the course of the meal. Adaora’s cold behaviour towards me was equally very noticeable. She refused talking to me or even looking towards my direction. It really kind of affected my composure because i wasn’t used to the cold treatment she metted out to me.

Later in the night, i sneaked up to her room to have a little private chat with her. I silently prayed as i slowly walked into the dark room..

“of course, as usual you are here to take advantage of a gullible girl. You are here to tell me how innocent you are” i suddenly heard Adaora’s Voice as i made my way in. I froze instantly and gazed at the direction of the voice, straining my eyes to see clearly. It was obvious she was expecting me.

“isn’t it so Val?” she asked, switching on a small electric table lamp beside her bed. The room instantly lit up to reveal her sitting on the bed and facing my direction.

“Adaora you should have at least listened to my explanation before making up your mind to break up with me. Seriously” i murmured carefully. She hissed.

“you got no shame. You are very despicable. Your own mother has even given up on you. What on earth are you even doing here?. Of course you know i can never buy your lies again” she said seriously. I swallowed hard and breathed deeply.

“Adaora” i called her name softly, taking a step closer to her.

“you have no dignity, shame nor a little common sense. If you had any, you wouldn’t have showed up here. I despise you. I can’t believe i’m even talking to you” she said bitterly.

“Adaora” i called her name again.

“i have moved on. I have a new guy already, so the best thing you will do for yourself is to get the f–k out of this house first thing tomorrow. Now get out of my room” she screamed out loudly, not caring that her mum was in the house. I instantly backed away, terrified and scared..
I couldn’t risk spending another minute in her room in order not to attract her mum who could misinterpret the whole scenario… So i left
______

During breakfast the next morning, Adaora did a very shocking thing by asking her mum to send me out of the house.

“I’m not comfortable with Val’s presence. Mum you have to send him back to where ever he came from, unless you want me to leave in his place. I can’t spend another hour with him in this house” she seriously said to her mum, as i joined them for breakfast, shocking the woman who instantly grew pale.

“hey young lady, i hope you are not trying to disrespect me?. I’m the owner of the house and i alone decides who stays or leaves” she cautioned Adaora who instantly sprang up from her chair.

“fine, i’m leaving. Enjoy your house” she shouted back at her mum, eyed me and walked out on us.

“mum, maybe i should leave” i quietly breathed.

“no you are going nowhere. I invited you and you are my guest. I’m coming” she replied, got up and went after her daughter. Within seconds i heard mother and daughter exchanging words in the bedroom…

I really felt so bad and ashamed of myself. I never knew Adaora could shun me to that extent. Perhaps Frank was right after all. My trip to Abuja was simply a waste of time…
