EPISODE 11
I got home at night after work and couldn’t help but spend a great deal of time playing back in my head all that happened earlier in the day, I really was so happy that I went out on a date with my boss and it was as if I just won a jackpot.
I finally picked up my phone and logged on to whatsapp to chat with Segun.
ME: hi Segun
SEGE: how far Onihaxy.
ME: I dey jare. Something happened at work today.
SEGE: really?, oya gist me.
ME: I was on my seat when Funmi called me and I went to her office. She said she wanted to send me on an errand to get food for her.
SEGE: ok
ME: I told her that I would buy it and pay from my purse just like you advised. She couldn’t believe her ears and suggested rather take her out for lunch instead of buying a takeaway since I’m paying for it.
SEGE: waoooooooo. So what happened next?
ME: we drove out to one big restaurant and hanged out for lunch. The total cost of our expenses was close to 4k. The money pain me oooooo. Because that amount is my weekly budget.
SEGE: don’t look at it from that angle. Instead, look at it from the angle of investment. At least you have earned a class from her with that simple approach. And besides, how much is 4k compared to the 30k she gave you for rent 3 weeks back?.
ME: hmmmmmmm.
SEGE: yes na. So what were the discussions you guys had during the outing?, or was it just eating?.
ME: funny. She asked of my girlfriend.
SEGE: girlfriend kee?, has she met Betty before?
ME: no oooo. She asked in this manner “how is your girlfriend?, tell me about her”
SEGE: hahahahahahaha. Na interview be that oooo. So what was your response?
ME: I told her I don’t have anyone at the moment.
SEGE: correct boy. She didn’t ask why?
ME: she asked and I told her I was heartbroken 8 months back and since then, I decided to stay out of relationship.
SEGE: that’s not too bad sha.
ME: she asked if I love or have feelings for anyone inside the bank.
SEGE: omo see practical question. So what was your reply?
ME: I told her I don’t have feelings for anyone except someone who happened to be my superior.
SEGE: chaiiii, see good strategic answer. Correct boy. One bottle of Alomo for you for that response. You don dey blend be that.
ME: hahahahaha.
SEGE: what did she say after your response?
ME: she smiled and changed topic.
SEGE: it shows that she already understood where you are going but she doesn’t want to be too forward.
ME: really?
SEGE: yeah. She just wants you to be man enough to push further.
ME: man enough?, she said something like that when I was in her office.
SEGE: really?. What happened and why did she say so?
ME: when I said I will go to the eatery, buy the take away from my purse and bring it to her in her office, she said I’m not man enough because I’m supposed to take her out and not to go out and bring takeaway. That was when we decided to go out together.
SEGE: correct madam, she already gave you all the code, she just wanted you to be man enough to decode it.
ME: hmmmmmmm.
SEGE: yes na. Don’t worry, we will take about that later.
ME: ok boss.
SEGE: were you the one that drove the car?
ME: no ooooooo.
SEGE: why? Haven’t you started driving the car Betty gave you?
ME: no, I’m still learning. But in two to three weeks time, I should start taking the car out after getting my temporary license.
SEGE: it’s ok. How is your wife?, hope you are hearing from her?
ME: who?, Bimpe?
SEGE: you no well, wetin concern me with that stupid girl.
ME: hmmmmm
SEGE: are you guys still talking?
ME: no ooo. It’s been long. Since that time Betty saw her watch in my room.
SEGE: ok oooo. Thank God you are now taking to advice.
ME: yes boss.
SEGE: I was referring to Betty. Hope she is fine?
ME: yeah. We always do video chat on skype and chat almost everyday.
SEGE: hmmmmmmm. I go love ooooo.
ME: Abi now.
SEGE: my regards to her oooooo.
ME: ok boss
SEGE: I want to take a break from Akure for some days.
ME: why?, what happened?, you have impregnated someone abi?
SEGE: you no well, I didn’t impregnate anyone jor, I just want to change environment for some days.
ME: come to Lagos now, at least I live alone.
SEGE: ok, no problem. I will come next week.
ME: ok boss. At least, you will meet Bimpe again.
SEGE: two of you no well. If I see her again this time, I will strangle her to death.
ME: hahahahahahahaha. You are not serious. Let’s chat tomorrow jaree. I’m going to work tomorrow morning.
SEGE: alright, good night.
EPISODE 12.
Bimpe continued to call me all through the day from Monday till the middle of the week which I continued to ignore. She would ping me and send series of messages which I didn’t reply. I tried all my best to ignore her completely and stay away from her but she would never stop calling. The last text she sent to me was on Wednesday night of the same week.
I arrived home from work that evening feeling so weak and tired as usual. I decided to play some games on my phone to cool my brain after the stressful day at work. Around few minutes to 10pm, I got a whatsapp message on my phone, I opened it and it was from Adebimpe’s secret number and the message goes thus
” I can now see how wicked and heartless you are, after all I did for you, after loving you with the whole of my heart, after keeping and nurturing a seed for you, all you could do is to start ignoring me, I just want to tell you to be ready for whatever consequence that will come later, Good day”.
I got scared again and became restless again. Different strange thoughts began to flood my mind.
“What could be the consequence?”
” Haven’t I got myself into another trouble?”
” Is she going to tell Betty about it?”
“Or is she going to tell Henry?”
” Should I take her threats serious?”
” Is she really going to do anything bad to me?”
” Onihaxy, you are in serious trouble”.
I couldn’t sleep that night as I continued to think and ponder on the text message. I thought of calling Segun to inform him but I remembered that he told me he would never be involved in anything related to Bimpe again.
Even if I decide to inform Segun, how would I tell him that I impregnated Bimpe?.
I got to work on Thursday the next day, feeling very uncomfortable and scared. The thoughts of Adebimpe’s text message keep flashing back to my mind and I couldn’t concentrate well at work. I always checked my phone at intervals to see if Adebimpe would call or send another message and I equally was surprised that she wasn’t calling me again. This really got me more scared.
Throughout that day till Friday the next day, I was so disturbed. By 6pm Friday, my phone rang and it was Henry on the line.
“Chaiii, I don die!!!!!!”.
I was so scared to pick the call as I began to wonder if I had gotten into any trouble. The phone rang the second time and I picked up.
ME: hello sir
HENRY: hello Mr. Onihaxy. Long time.
ME: long time sir, how is family and work?.
HENRY: everything is fine, and yours?
ME: fine too
HENRY: you don’t even bother to call me again, that’s bad of you.
ME: I’m sorry sir. I changed phone not too long sir, so I lost many contacts.
HENRY: that’s not an excuse, if you cared to call me, you will get the number from my sister.
ME: I’m sorry sir.
HENRY: no problem.
ME: thank you sir
HENRY: that aside, can you come over to Lekki this weekend, we need to see and its very urgent.
Me: ghen ghen…. E don happen what is that sir?
HENRY: . We just need to see and discuss something very important. As a matter of fact, it’s very urgent.
ME: ok sir. Aren’t you travelling this weekend?
HENRY: no, I will be at home all through.
ME: ok sir, I will come around on Sunday afternoon.
HENRY: alright, no problem. Do have a nice day.
ME: and you too.
EPISODE 13
I woke up on Sunday morning and prepared for church, I got to church and couldn’t concentrate well on the sermon as my mind was already at Lekki. I was just looking at my time all through the service and looking at the preacher at the same time hoping that he would round up on time. I got out of the church at the closure of service by 12:30pm, with my bible in my hand, I walked towards Maryland junction, crossed over the road to the other side and I board a brt bus down to cms. While I was in the bus, I called Henry to inform him that I was coming and he told me that he would be expecting me. Immediately after the call, I remembered that I didn’t inform Betty that her brother told me to see him. I opened my bbm to chat with her.
ME: hello dear.
BETTY: hi love. What happened to your line since morning?
ME: nothing jaree, I was in the church, so I switched off.
BETTY: alright dear, how was the service?
ME: fine and good.
BETTY: ok dear
ME: betty, I forgot to tell you previously, your brother called me two days back and he requested to see me?.
BETTY: really?, what for?
ME: I have no idea dear. Aren’t you aware of it?
BETTY: not at all, he never told me anything.
ME: really?
BETTY: yes, he didn’t tell me anything. Maybe I should call him
ME: no, don’t worry since you said you weren’t aware, just pretend as if you don’t know.
BETTY: ok dear, so when are you going to see him?
ME: today. I’m already on my way.
BETTY: ok dear. Hope you will give me feedback when you are through?
ME: trust me dear.
Betty and I continued to chat until I got to CMS bus top. I took another bus to Lekki phase 1 and another bus from Lekki to the junction of Henry’s house. I walked down from the junction until I got to Henry’s house and knocked on the gate. The gate was opened by the same gateman I used to meet there and I entered the compound.
I knocked on the main door and I heard a female voice from behind asking me
“who is there?”, on hearing the voice, I knew it was Adebimpe and I replied saying
“its me onihaxy”, the door was opened and I entered. Adebimpe released a loud sounding hiss and walked away while I entered and shut the door from behind.
Bimpe walked away with a frown and sat down at the other end of the chair while I sat at the opposite extreme. She picked up a remote control with her left hand to lower the volume of the sound system while she picked up her phone with her right hand, scrolled through it and made a call.
“Henry, come down stairs, your guest is around” was what I heard and she dropped her phone and increased the volume of the sound system. She adjusted her sitting position and concentrated on the telemundo she was watching on the TV without caring to give me any attention.
“Chaiii, bimpe no even send me, wahala dey ooooo”.
I was scared as I sat on the chair, the look on Bimpe’s face was like that of a wounded lion, and it was her scariest mood face expression I have ever seen. She didn’t talk to me neither did she offer me any drink.
Moments later, Henry walked down the staircase. I looked at his face and observed that he was not smiling. The look on his face was also scary. I got scared the more and I began to think of so many things.
“How come both of them are wearing the same scary look?”
” I have never seen Henry in this mood before”
“Neither have I seen Bimpe like this before also”
” Definately, I’m in serious trouble.”
EPISODE 14.
As Henry got down from the staircase, he walked towards Bimpe and sat down beside her. I bent forward and said
“good afternoon sir”, I was shocked when he looked into my face and said
“mr onihaxy, there is nothing good about the afternoon”. This time, I was more than scared, in fact I was shaking on the seat and wondering what could be going on.
ME: haaaa, sir!!!!!!!, what have I done wrong sir?
HENRY: so many things. Infact, everything.
ME: haaaaaaaaaa. What is that sir?
HENRY: **** turned to bimpe***** darling, please get him something to drink before we commence this meeting please.
BIMPE: Me?, get him something to drink?, not me.
HENRY: please dear. I thought I have begged you over this issue. Please just let it go and leave everything for me to resolve. Please!!!!!
BIMPE: ***looked at me as if she should chop off my head****** stood up reluctantly and went to the dinning room.
ME: “surprised” **begged her keee?, to let go of what?, e be like say my fowl yansh don open***
HENRY: just wait and let her be back.
ME: ok sir. Please where is Daniela sir?
HENRY: she went out with our new maid.
ME: ok sir
BETTY: ****returned with a can of cold malt and a glass cup and dropped them on the stood beside my seat and returned back to sit beside Henry******
HENRY: please drink.
ME: I’m ok for now sir.
HENRY: no, I insist. You are just coming from the hot sun, and seeing bible with you, I believed you are coming here directly from church. So you need something to cool down first.
ME: ok sir. ***** opened the can, poured little inside the glass cup and
Drank little****
HENRY: now let’s go to the main purpose of this meeting.
ME: ok sir
HENRY: ***turned to Bimpe****, please lower the volume of what you are watching and concentrate here please
BIMPE: ****reluctantly reduced the volume of the sound system*****
HENRY: ok Mr. Onihaxy, as you are looking at my wife and I, what is our relationship with you?,
ME: sir?, relationship as how?, I don’t get it sir
HENRY: to you, who are we?
ME: ok, now I get it, you are my in-laws sir.
HENRY: right from the day Betty brought you into this house and introduced you to us as her fiancé, have we ever treated you bad before?
ME: no sir.
HENRY: Are you aware that my sister is playing a deadly game just because of you?
ME: yes sir, she told me.
HENRY: good. Did you know that she is going against our father’s wish and she will be disowned after her education just because of you?
ME: yes sir.
HENRY: ok, do you realize that she will break an engagement and end up hurting someone just because of you?
ME: yes sir.
HENRY: if so, then why do we deserve the opposite of the way we treated you?
ME: opposite?, I don’t get it sir.
HENRY: ok, weeks before Betty travelled out, you stopped calling me and my wife, my sister took her car out of this compound and gave it to you, yet you never called me or my wife for an appreciation, or you think we aren’t aware of it?
ME: I’m so sorry sir.
HENRY: finally, my wife called you and you ignored her calls several times.
ME: haaaaa.
HENRY: what is haaaaa?, I was here seated beside her while she called you several times and you won’t pick up, she decided to use my second line to call you, you hanged up immediately after hearing her voice. Seriously, what did we do to you to deserve all this?
ME: ****feeling remorsed**** I’m so sorry sir
HENRY: seriously, I don’t blame you at all, if not for Betty who begged my wife to always keep in touch with you so that you won’t feel detached from the family in her absence. I never knew you were like this.
ME: I’m so sorry sir, I’m promising you that it won’t repeat itself again, I will amend sir.
HENRY: but wait, I want to know what actually happened that you don’t always pick my wife’s call and hang up whenever you heard her voice from another number. Just tell me.
ME: ****chaiiiii!!!!!, what do I say now*******
EPISODE 15.
ME: *****silent for a while*******
BIMPE : *****looked at me in the eye and appeared somehow scared*****
ME: eeeehmm, Mr Henry. It was actually a transferred aggression.
HENRY: transferred aggression as how?.
ME: most of the time, it was either our customers provoked me, or my superiors. It actually led me to transfer aggression to many people. I’m sorry about that.
HENRY: ok, now I understand.
BIMPE: smiled that’s true; some customers can be so rude and annoying at the bank.
HENRY: but all the same, that shouldn’t cause you to treat people who cared about you anyhow.
ME: ok sir.
HENRY: I used to work as an enquiry officer with a bank back in those days, and yet I placed a balance between my job and my family.
ME: thank you sir.
HENRY: Actually, I have wanted to call my sister and advice her to forget about you and move on. I’m serious.
ME: haaaaaaa.
HENRY: I swear to God. Because I can’t imagine a man claiming to date my sister and yet, he refused to call, visit, and equally ignore our calls. Thank your stars and thank my wife. If not for her who suggested that we should invite you over and enquire from you. Honestly, I don’t have that patience.
ME: *** turned to Bimpe***** mummy Daniela, thank you very much ma. I’m really grateful ma. And please ma. Forgive me ma. It was actually a transferred aggression ma, it won’t repeat itself ma.
BIMPE: let’s just thank God. Try to change and adjust your ways, because I can’t imagine how you will treat my mother in-law when you treated us this way.
ME: I’m so sorry ma.
BIMPE: no problem.
HENRY: turned to bimpe hope you have forgive him fully and whole heartedly.
BIMPE: **smiled and rest her head on Henry’s chest**** yes dear, I have.
HENRY: Mr. Onihaxy!, next time I hear that you aren’t calling or not picking calls again, I swear to God, you will see the other side of me.
ME: I heard you sir, I will try my best to be a good boy sir. And I promise you that I will even be the one to be calling.
HENRY: that’s good and that is what I like to hear. Maybe you don’t know that my wife and I are your reference in this relationship. Whatever we say or decide is what my sister must follow.
ME: ok sir.
BIMPE: ****mood changed immediately and was smiling**** so mr onihaxy, what will you eat?
ME: I’m ok for now. I’m fine.
BIMPE: I will never accept that, you must eat something.
ME: seriously, I’m good and fine.
HENRY: mummy Daniela, why are you asking him?, go to the kitchen and prepare something jaree.
BIMPE: ok dear, I will be right back.***stood up and left us****
HENRY: Mr nihaxy, let’s talk about you. How is work?, and when do you intend to settle down?
Henry and I continued to relate and chat on so many issues for the next 20 minutes until we heard a knock on the door. Henry asked who was at the door and a voice sounded from outside saying “it’s me Sarah”. Henry raised his voice to call bimpe. “Darling, sarah is at the door”. Bimpe came out to the living room putting on a kitchen apron. She went to the door and opened it.
The door opened and a young lady entered, holding daniella on the hand, Adebimpe bent down, picked Daniela up and kissed her, petting her and calling her several pet names. She dropped her down and said
“daniella, “oya” go and play with uncle Onihaxy”.
Daniella came over to meet me while Betty and Sarah entered into the kitchen. I asked Henry who Sarah was and he replied that she was the new maid.
20 minutes later, sarah came out of the kitchen to the dinning carrying a tray containing two dishes and some plates while Bimpe came out to meet us at the living room where I was playing with Daniela. Henry was so surprised seeing Daniela and I playing together like two kids. He turned to Adebimpe and asked,
HENRY: dear, has Mr. Onihaxy and daniella been playing like this before?
BIMPE: why did you ask?
HENRY: because I have never seen Daniela playing with an outsider like this before.
BIMPE: yeah, that is true. Maybe daniella liked him sha. And funny enough. She is always asleep whenever he comes here to visit betty, I think he met daniella awake just thrice.
HENRY: this is amazing.
ME: smiling at both of them, see this man, why won’t she play with me when I’m her father ”
BIMPE: anyways, food is ready, let’s all go to the kitchen and eat.
We all left the living room and went to the dinning with Daniela sitting by my side and still playing with me.
